About Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

What if feeling better wasn’t a distant goal but a step that you could take today?

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation. It’s similar to the feeling you may experience when daydreaming, driving a regular route or loosing track of time watching a film. In this calm, comfortable state, the mind becomes more open to positive and helpful suggestions.

Rather than taking control of your mind, hypnosis simply helps quiet the busy analytical part of the brain. This allows you to access the subconscious mind where habits beliefs and automatic responses are stored. Because of this, hypnosis can help you make meaningful and lasting changes more easily.

During hypnosis you remain fully in control. You can hear everything that is said and you can come out of the relaxed state at any time. Most people describe the experience as peaceful and enjoyable.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, hypnosis is used to support your strengths, build confidence, reduce stress and encourage new, healthier patterns of thoughts and behaviours. It’s a gentle yet effective way to promote positive change by working with the mind in a focused and solution orientated way.

How does it work?

When you enter a hypnotic state, brain activity shifts. The prefrontal cortex (the area responsible for critical thinking, decision making and self-monitoring) temporarily becomes less effective. At the same time, the limbic system (responsible for emotion and memory) becomes more engaged. This change allows helpful suggestions to bypass the usual mental filters and reach the subconscious mind more directly, where deeper habits and emotional patterns are stored.

Hypnosis also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, often called the ‘rest and digest’ system. This reduces activity in the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. As a result, heart rate, muscle tension and stress hormones decrease, creating a state of calm that supports clearer thinking and emotional regulation.

In this relaxed state, the brain becomes more receptive to forming new neural pathways, which is why hypnosis can be so effective in helping people replace old habits and patterns with healthier and more positive ones.
